The spiritual Effects of chronic Disease: How to find light in darkness

Chronic illness runs the gamut: cancer, diabetes, arthritis, autoimmune diseases, chronic pain, and mental health conditions are some we hear about often. Unlike acute illnesses, which have a sudden onset and resolve relatively quickly, chronic diseases develop over time and may not have an apparent cure.
Chronic illness can impact physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Symptoms vary by condition but often include fatigue, pain, inflammation, and reduced mobility. Try telling your boss that you need 1-2 days off a month because you have endometriosis or that you need accommodations in your work schedule because of fibromyalgia. My own experience is with CKD (chronic kidney disease) after a nephrectomy for renal carcinoma.
The isolation and frustration a person feels with a chronic disease can bring darkness to a person's life: anger, resentment, self-blame, and shame.
I'm qualified to teach techniques such as yoga and meditation, which have greatly informed my life, but my belief and experience have shown me that my spiritual work has the most significant impact on my health and CKD. I used to think I was in control of my body, which I realized is valid only to a certain extent. Yes, stress impacts your body and mind, but I've learned that without a connection to source, a belief in something greater than myself, it's easy to feel like a victim, a lack of purpose, and most importantly, a disconnection from the light. It's hard for me to see my purpose or to transform my pain.
It's a journey and belief that your life has infinite meaning and purpose despite your chronic disease.
What would it feel like to fully trust the wisdom of your body and soul?
In what ways can you surrender control while still being an active participant in your healing?
