Cancer Recovery Coaching

There are many differences between cancer recovery coaches, including what they focus on, e.g., nutrition, exercise, their coaching model, and their personalities.

In 2011, I discovered life coaching, and I loved it. I signed up for my first coaching certification class. I spent 6 months with a cohort doing many hours of coaching and receiving coaching. From there, I continued to coach people. The problems were varied, but the model stayed the same. However, I honed my skills over the years and became a much better coach; I enhanced active listening, staying present, supporting growth and transformation, and helping the client feel more connected to source.

Additionally, as a life coach, I will share resources with my clients, and any knowledge I have that might help them on their cancer journey. My belief is the same: the client is the expert in their life, including their cancer experience. I am not a patient advocate - although I think they can be invaluable to some people - I'm here to help you find meaning in your experience, a path forward that best serves you, to discover who you are in the present moment, what you want, and how your cancer diagnosis has changed your life.

What do you want to have more of in your life moving forward?  And less of?

Cancer Recovery Coaching with me is life coaching after a life-changing event: cancer.

The year following my diagnosis and surgery, I gave a speech at the American Cancer Society walk. I was still in the "why me" phase of thinking. I spoke about my healthy lifestyle: yoga, plant-based diet, etc. At my lowest point, I remember sitting in my therapist's office asking, "What will become of me?" as I shoved in one Hershey kiss after another.  The uncertainty of the future was too much for my brain then. She answered, "What will become of any of us," meaning that none of us know the future. All we can know is the present. Even if, in the present, we are "healthy." It took me quite a long time to realize that I didn't do anything to get cancer and that my future is now.

What does healing look like for you beyond the physical recovery?

Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning is one of my favorite books. I read it over and over again. "Forces beyond your control can take away everything you possess except one thing, your freedom to choose how you will respond to the situation."

That's what my coaching attempts to help you with.
